Driver Fatigue May Have Played Role in Marion County Big Truck Accident

In Blog by The InsidersLeave a Comment

Unfortunately, much time doesn’t pass in East Tennessee without there being reports of a serious truck accident.  With tractor trailers constantly traveling throughout the state, it’s only a matter of time before a wreck occurs.  Hopefully, you or someone you love will never find yourself involved in one of these devastating wrecks but as lawyers for truck accidents in Chattanooga we’re here to help if you are.

You only have to go back as far as a few weeks ago to see just how terrible a big truck wreck can be.  Maybe you noticed that Interstate 24 was closed for much of the night in Marion County on October 1st.  The reason was that a truck driver drifted off of the interstate and down an embankment.  It was there that he hit a series of trees and was ejected from the rig.  Sadly, he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash.

He also had several passengers in the truck, many of which had to be taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for a variety of injuries.  A large fuel leaked also followed which led to a response by a HAZMAT crew.  All in all, it was a terrible and tragic scene.  What could have gone wrong?

There is speculation that driver fatigue may have played a role.  Truck drivers are often required to work long hours which can lead to dosing off behind the wheel.  It’s usually up to trucking companies to make sure that their drivers are getting the appropriate amount of time to relax and sleep.
