Hixson Pike Head-On Collision Sends Three to the Hospital

At 7 a.m., most people would rather be in bed than on the road.  And sometimes exhaustion can be dangerous – impairing your judgment and slowing your reaction time so you’re more vulnerable to auto accidents.

Just before 7 a.m. in Chattanooga on Tuesday morning, two cars were involved in a head-on collision at 3900 Hixson Pike in front of the Food Lion.

Officers on the scene told News Channel 9 that two teenagers in a red car collided with an adult in a navy car.  All three were taken to the hospital, and the fallout from the accident held up morning traffic.  As of Wednesday night, it was unclear how severe the victims’ injuries were.

But, as many Chattanooga residents know, this isn’t the first car crash on Hixson Pike.  In fact, there have been several other accidents on that road just in the past year.  In May, two men were killed when their pickup truck crossed the center line and hit an SUV head on.

In September, Vicki Pippin, a 39-year-old Hixson native, was killed when a driver crossed several lanes of traffic and hit her Nissan Quest in the left front.

Most recently, on Nov. 10, a school bus carrying children was traveling south near the 8100 block of Hixson Pike when it left the road and struck a tree.  Six students suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office launched investigations into most of these incidents, but there aren’t easy answers as to why so many car crashes happen on this road.

The auto accidents leave survivors with injuries that can take months of rehab and significantly alter the quality of life.  In situations like these, victims may want to talk to a lawyer to make sure they’re receiving all they are entitled to from their insurance companies.
