Driver Faces DUI Charge After Accident That Killed Toddler
Joevon Deltroy Foust was charged with a DUI after an accident on Interstate 40 that led to the death of a two-year-old. Foust had another DUI conviction prior to the collision. According to WVLT 8, “Authorities said Foust lost control of his Pontiac Grand AM, went from the left lane of I-40, crossed both right lanes, and ran off the roadway and then hit some trees.”
Zyliya Irvin, two-years-old, was in the back seat of the vehicle when the accident occurred. Her car seat was not properly fastened, and she was ejected from the car.
Irvin was transported to a hospital with severe injuries, where she later died.
Woman Killed in Three-Vehicle Wreck on Asheville Highway
An accident involving three vehicles on Asheville Highway killed one woman. Based on the police investigation, the driver of a Kia minivan was heading westbound on Asheville Highway and attempted to turn south onto Gov. John Sevier Highway. The driver did not see the Jeep traveling eastbound, and the two collided.
After the initial crash, the minivan also hit a Chevrolet truck that was turning east onto Asheville Highway. The woman riding in the front passenger seat of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Car Crashed Into a Local Home, One Person Fled the Scene
Ralph Lee, 73-years-old, was asleep when a vehicle near Ellen Street and A Avenue crashed into his front porch. Ralph told WVLT 8 that the car must have hit a tree and went airborne before hitting his home.
Based on the police report, the owner of the vehicle had said she was driving when the collision occurred, however, she later changed her statement and said it was her boyfriend who was operating the vehicle. The boyfriend was indeed the one driving. After crashing the car, he fled the scene.
The owner of the vehicle remained at the scene and suffered minor injuries. She faces two charges, including a false police report and underage consumption.
19-Year-Old UT Student Killed in a Two-Vehicle Wreck
An accident that occurred at Western Avenue and Dale Avenue killed Tara Fox,19-years-old, who was a University of Tennessee student. Fox was driving a Honda Accord when she made a left turn onto Interstate 40. She pulled in front of Rodney Turpin, 50-years-old, who was driving a Nissan Quest.
Fox was found dead at the scene, and it appeared that she had not been wearing a seat belt. Turpin was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Knox News shared a press release from the Knoxville Police Department stating, “Investigators will meet with prosecutors to determine whether charges should be filed against the driver.” Turpin has a record of driving under the influence and intoxication convictions.
Tennessee State House Representative Injured in Automobile Accident
Jeremy Faison, a Cosby-based Tennessee state house representative, was injured in an accident. Ryan Williams, a fellow state representative, posted on Twitter, “A little beaten up with a broken nose and a few cracked ribs and a head full of staples.”
