Why Knoxville Car Accident Lawyers Stay Away From These Intersections
Living in a big city is fun. Living in the heart of the Volunteer State is an honor. However, the roads in our beloved town are not immune to the struggles that come with living in popular cities, one of those being heavy traffic. On game day, our roads become especially dangerous, with a large number of cars driving in and out to support their teams.
Our Knoxville car accident lawyers at McMahan Law Firm have seen how dangerous our roads and intersections can be first hand. We want to keep our community informed to help drivers avoid accidents on our roadways. With this in mind, we have put together a list of Knoxville’s most dangerous roads and intersections, so you can stay as safe as possible, even on game day.
Crest Forrest and Walker Springs on Fox Lonas Road
Fox Lonas Road as a whole is not very dangerous. However, the intersection at Crest Forrest and Walker Springs Road has witnessed a number of accidents. Accidents here usually involve only one car. Officials believe speed is likely the cause of most of the accidents, so please remember to be cautious and obey the speed limit when traveling through this intersection.
Canton Hollow Road
Canton Hollow Road is one of the busiest roads in the city. It is comprised of twists and turns, steep hills, and neighborhood entrances. The road is known for being especially dangerous for anyone who is not used to driving on it. Rush hour is a particularly dangerous time on this road, as people rush to and from work. The road has seen a number of crashes, so it’s important for drivers to be cautious and stay alert.
This traffic-heavy road has a section that runs between Hill Road and McCloud Road where a number of accidents have occurred. This spot is particularly dangerous because drivers must merge from Hill and McCloud Road onto Andersonville Pike, which is, oftentimes, extremely congested. Merging onto a busy road is tricky and causes many serious accidents. For this reason, Andersonville Pike is on our list of the most dangerous roads and intersections in Knoxville.
Joe Hinton Road
Joe Hinton Road is less than a mile long, yet it is one of the city’s most dangerous roads. This area carries an alarming amount of daily traffic. Consequently, a great number of accidents have occurred here. The road is simply not designed for the amount of traffic it sees, making it extremely problematic for drivers.
Due to mass amounts of erosion, a “Grand Canyon” developed off Kingston Pike. Not only is this road dangerous, but it is often closed due to flooding. 15 people have died on Kingston Pike. If you come across this road when it is covered in water, don’t attempt to drive through. You don’t know what the conditions are beneath the water, and you run the risk of being swept away or trapped. Instead, slow down and turn around.
On the 22-mile stretch of Chapman Highway from Knoxville to Sevierville, 76 people have died in car crashes. That’s about 3.5 deaths per mile. This busy stretch of highway is extremely dangerous, with people merging on and off of it at rapid speeds at all hours of the day.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says they have spent millions of dollars trying to make it safer for drivers but it’s still not enough. If you need to drive on this highway, please use extreme caution.
Be Aware of These Areas, Too:
In addition to our list of the top dangerous roads and intersections, here are some additional areas where we urge drivers to pay close attention:
- Gleason Drive
- Sevierville Pike
