Bradley County emergency crews rushed to the site of an incredibly scary crash Wednesday morning. A school bus and an SUV were completely demolished after a head-on collision. Any accident that occurs in Southern Tennessee has the chance of causing injuries, but when that accident involves a school bus with children who aren’t restrained by safety belts, the chance is even higher.
It’s believed that just before 7am on US Highway 11 the driver of the SUV crossed the center line and into the path of the approaching school bus. The vehicles collided head-on and the SUV careened into a ditch.
The highway was blocked for several hours as emergency crews responded to the accident. The driver of the SUV had been thrown from the vehicle on impact and was left with life-threatening injuries. The bus driver suffered only minor injuries, but unfortunately more serious injuries were suffered by one of the special-needs students onboard. That student was rushed to SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland to be treated for their injuries.
All the details that led up to the accident are unknown. What exactly caused the SUV to cross the center line is yet to be revealed. Like so many accidents, all that is known for sure is that several people and their families have been deeply affected and have a long road to recovery ahead.
